An 18-month old boy drowned Thursday in a day care's backyard swimming pool. Police reported that at 7 p.m. a toddler was found floating in a large in-ground swimming pool on Falcon Court in the Fox Farm area.
The pool was three to nine feet deep, police said. Officers performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.
The toddler was barely breathing in the ambulance, said Sgt. Jere Carpenter. Cascade County Deputy Tim Wong said the baby died 30 minutes later at Benefis East.
The boy apparently crawled through a pet door, across the patio and into the back yard when the child's supervisor briefly turned her back, Carpenter said. The toddler was in the water less than five minutes, he said. The boy's name was not released pending notification of relatives.
The childcare service was at a Falcon Court residence; its name was not available. This is the second time a toddler has drowned in Great Falls in less than a month. On June 16, a 14-month-old girl drowned in a decorative fishpond in her back yard on 24th Street Southwest.
