Southwest Bakersfield baby dies from drowning

A 9-month-old baby who was found Saturday evening in a southwest Bakersfield swimming pool died Sunday night at a Madera hospital, the Madera County coroner’s staff reported. She died at 8:34 p.m. at Children’s Hospital Central California, coroner spokeswoman Erica Stuart said Monday.

She got into the pool after being inside the home and crawling out a doggie door, police said.

Bakersfield police said the drowning in a pool on Golden Sunrise Court near Harris and Ashe roads was an accident.

The baby was found in a pool at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. She was not breathing when she was pulled from the pool. She was being watched by her grandmother, police said.
