Drowning victim identified - Police: Child crawled through pet door

Wichita Falls police have identified the 1-year-old girl who drowned Saturday. Police said it appeared the baby crawled through a pet door to get to the swimming pool.

Her parents found her Saturday afternoon in the swimming pool outside the home at No. 10 Periwinkle, police said. "We got the call at 4 p.m. on Saturday,"said Sgt. Joe Snyder, public information for the Wichita Falls Police Department. "We were sent with first responders."

Police said Saturday that the child’s parents were performing CPR, which medical personnel continued when they arrived.

An ambulance took her to the emergency room at United Regional, but she was pronounced dead at 5:03 p.m. Saturday, Snyder said. Juvenile detectives went to the house Saturday, and are investigating the incident. This appears to have been an accidental drowning, Snyder said.
